Zang Making Weekend
Bamboo is plentiful in China (i think), and needless to say, the chinese has been using all parts of bamboo for centuries. They make chopsticks, calligraphy brush, sitting mats, houses, and of course, food out of bamboo.
Once a year, my Malaysian friends will gather for our 'zang' making event. This year is no exception. You wrap some seasoned glutinous rice, pork, shitake mushroom, mung bean, salted egg york, and chest nut in bamboo leaves..... boil in salted water for about an hour...... voila, you have a Zang.
We started about 4pm and didn't get done till 11pm or so. We ended up with more than a hundred Zangs. Elaine and Nic were real troopers. They wrapped non-stop, with only occasional break to sip wine and have chips with guacamole.
Nic stayed for the night, and the catch up was fun. It has been a while since i stayed up late yapping with friends. And i remember again how boring married people are. :)
